Radiotherapy for eye cancer

Radiotherapy uses high energy waves similar to x-rays to kill eye cancer cells. It is a common treatment for different types of eye cancer. There are different ways of having radiotherapy to the eye. This includes internal radiotherapy (brachytherapy) and external beam therapy.

Radiotherapy is a common treatment for melanoma of the eye.

Internal radiotherapy for eye cancer

Internal radiotherapy is also called brachytherapy. A small disc called a plaque is placed on the eye to treat some eye cancers.

External radiotherapy for eye cancer

This means directing radiotherapy beams at the tumour from outside the eye. 

Side effects of radiotherapy for eye cancer

Radiotherapy for eye cancer has some side effects. These depend on which part of your eye has been treated.
