Getting diagnosed with myeloma
You usually start by seeing your GP if you have symptoms. Or your GP might arrange to see you if you have had an abnormal blood test result. Symptoms of myeloma can be vague and could be due to other less serious conditions. Your GP will ask about your symptoms and examine you.
They will then decide whether to refer you for further tests or to a specialist.

Screening for myeloma
Screening means testing people for early stages of a disease. There is no screening programme for myeloma in the UK.
Tests for myeloma
To diagnose myeloma you usually have blood and urine tests first. Depending on the results of these you might have a bone marrow test, x-rays and scans.
